Wedding buffet catering - Norfolk

A wedding buffet people actually talk about.

Relaxed does not mean an afterthought. Everything is cooked by us, set out properly, topped up all afternoon and cleared away without anyone noticing - whether that is a generous cold spread, a hog roast, sharing platters down the table or evening food at nine.

Wedding buffet spread laid out by Rudd Catering at a Norfolk barn wedding

A buffet is the most misunderstood way to feed a wedding. Done badly it is a foil tray and a queue. Done properly it is the most generous, most sociable food of the day - people going back for seconds, plates that keep looking full, and nobody stuck in their seat waiting to be served.

We have been cooking for Norfolk weddings as a family since 2008, and the buffets we are proudest of are the ones guests kept returning to. A recent nine-piece buffet for 150 at a Norfolk barn had three types of sandwich, sausage rolls, chicken goujons and crisps, then Tracy’s chocolate brownies, fruit scones with jam and clotted cream and colourful macarons. People came back for seconds and thirds - and a self-serve tea and coffee station ran alongside it, kept topped up all afternoon.

The important part is the invisible bit. We keep the table looking full rather than picked over, collect plates and cups as they empty, and clear everything at the end so nobody in the family is washing up in their wedding clothes. If linen is hired from us, that goes away with us too.

Ways to do it

Four honest shapes of wedding buffet.

The classic cold buffet

Quoted per wedding

Sandwiches, sausage rolls, savoury pastries, goujons and crisps, then brownies, scones with jam and clotted cream and macarons. Delivery-only on palm leaf plates keeps it affordable; a staffed version keeps it looking immaculate.

The food was exceptional and the service was seemless. Our guests were just as complimentary of the food as we were and we are still receiving compliments about the wedding breakfast.

Wedding buffet questions

Straight answers before you book.

How much does wedding buffet catering cost in Norfolk?
It depends on what the buffet has to do. The classic cold buffet is quoted per wedding, a hog roast buffet from £36 per guest with a full service team, and sharing platters or a plated menu sit above that. Guest numbers, whether you want staff and whether tableware is included all move the figure, so we quote every wedding individually rather than hiding behind a package price.
Is a wedding buffet cheaper than a plated meal?
Usually, yes - mostly because it needs fewer staff on the floor and less crockery through the wash. It is not automatic though. A generous hot buffet with several mains, sides and desserts can cost more than a simple plated menu, so it is worth pricing both. We are happy to send you the two side by side.
What goes in one of your wedding buffets?
Whatever suits the day. Our classic cold buffet runs to sandwiches, sausage rolls, chicken goujons, savoury pastries and crisps, then Tracy's chocolate brownies, fruit scones with jam and clotted cream, and macarons for the sweet half. Hot buffets are built around a centrepiece - hog roast, slow-cooked meats, curries or a vegetarian main - with sides, salads and breads.
Do you serve the buffet or just drop it off?
Both are options. A staffed buffet means we set it out, keep it topped up all the way through, clear plates as they empty and take everything away with us - guests never see the work. Delivery-only is available too, on disposable platters and eco-friendly palm leaf plates, with the venue or family handling clearing.
Do you include tableware and linen with a buffet?
Sharing platters, hog roast and plated menus include linen, glassware and tableware. Our simplest delivered buffets come on disposable platters and palm leaf plates to keep the price down. If you want china and proper linen on a buffet, just ask and we will price it in.
Can we have a buffet in the evening as well as a meal?
That is one of the most common shapes of day we cater. A full wedding breakfast at the start, then evening food at around nine when people need it - hog roast rolls in takeaway boxes, mac and cheese, loaded fries with a few toppings, or a cheese wheel with crackers and chutneys next to the cake.
Can you cater a buffet at a dry-hire venue or a marquee?
Yes. Barns, marquees, gardens, country houses and dry-hire spaces are our normal territory across Norfolk and the Fens. We bring a full working kitchen, the service team and everything the buffet needs, and we leave the space as we found it.
How do you handle dietary requirements on a buffet?
Properly, and separately. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergy plates are prepared and set out apart from the main buffet so there is no cross-contamination and nobody has to hover at the end of the queue asking questions. Tell us the requirements with your final numbers.
How many guests do you cater buffets for?
We have served intimate buffets for a few dozen guests and 150-plus at barn weddings and big birthdays. Our delivery-only buffet has a 60-guest minimum; anything staffed can be much smaller, so do ask.
Which parts of Norfolk do you cover?
We are based at South Wootton near King's Lynn and cater across Norfolk, west Norfolk, the Fens and into Cambridgeshire and Suffolk - Norwich, King's Lynn, Fakenham, Hunstanton, Downham Market, Swaffham, Ely, Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds among them.
